The Technology Behind Insights IDS.

A New Standard in Decision Support.

Insights IDS goes beyond conventional patent search and clustering tools.

We apply proprietary algorithms to 150 million global patents to uncover companies building similar technologies, at a product level. No prior IP expertise needed.

The results are deterministic, repeatable and compliant.

Unlike AI tools based on Learning Language Models our our technology is compliant for investor use.

Insights IDS does not guess.

elute’s search intelligence algorithms are based on forensic linguistic principles.

When are Linguistics applied?

A forensic linguist analyses documents by assessing the choice of words, spelling of words, their order, and style of use. When multiple documents are compared using these principles the forensic linguist can find document similarity, common terms and authorship.

Our core stack combines 4 proprietary algorithms

Insights IDS doesn’t rely on generic clustering or black-box AI.

Instead, it applies a deterministic scoring engine across 150 million global patents to generate four proprietary metrics, each highlighting a different dimension of competitive and strategic alignment.

IP Similarity

How aligned are the ideas?

This score analyses the actual language of patent claims and classifications, not just keywords.

It determines how closely a company’s protected innovations match the target’s, by idea and intent.

Used to:

– Identify direct product-level competitors

– Spot companies building similar solutions in other sectors

IP Footprint

Where does the company operate?

This assesses the spread of a company’s patent activity across technical themes relevant to the target.

It rewards focused positioning and penalises scatter.

Used to:

– Assess thematic alignment

– Distinguish embedded players from opportunists

IP Weight

How deeply is the company invested?

This measures relevant volume of patent activity within the target’s IP boundary.

It’s a proxy for R&D scale, resource commitment, and potential staying power.

Used to:

– Spot heavyweight players

– Assess capacity to act or dominate

Pure Play %

Is the company a focused specialist or a generalist?

This shows what percentage of a company’s total IP overlaps with the target’s.

A high score means the company is heavily concentrated in the same space.

A low score suggests a broader, less focused portfolio.

Used to:

– Highlight niche specialists

– Differentiate strategic from incidental overlap
